Inktober 2017

Inktober

Yes, I’m making the attempt! Attempt being the keyword as there is no way on this planet that I will be able to do something every day. But I will do something, and I have ๐Ÿ˜€

This is what I have created so far.

I'm an artist

This is an inking of a design I have had sitting around here for a while. It has some words to go with it and I was thinking of making a T-shirt out of it. Now I’m not so sure, but I haven’t yet ditched the project, so you never know.

Tracing the above down annoyed me with its requirements for accuracy and tightness, so I did a bit of free drawing to make up for it. I didn’t end up inking it and it was a wrestle with perspective my nemesis, but it is what it is – a snake monster ๐Ÿ˜€

I am so missing my camera! Sorry for the lousy photos ๐Ÿ™

The next day I decided to go with the random and free again and came up with this.

Opinionated octopus
Opinionated Octopus, pen and inktense on drawing paper, 420 x 297 mm

He was interesting to draw ๐Ÿ˜€ Anyone have any suggestions on what to write on his sign? ๐Ÿ˜€

I am learning that I don’t really know enough about the materials required for a good ink drawing. I have blending card and paper and drawing paper, but I seem to be fumbling with its correct usage. My next tackle is an attempt with watercolours I think. Even more totally outside my comfort zone, but experimenting is fun, even if the results are iffy.

And lastly, here be a nice shot of my studio set up for Inktober. The star of the show is my brand new drawing table, something I’ve been needing for ages, but only finally got around to purchasing early this year for my birthday (and only just now had the chance to take it out for a spin :D).

And as there was painting in my Octopus (with Inktense and a brush), this be my submission for Paint Party Friday this week. Don’t forget to drop over there and check out the wonderful art community that has been flourishing now for over seven years!

Art Always!

Best wishes,
Liz

  1. I love your ink drawings, and they all look so clean and good. If I try ink it just ends up getting messy. Have fun with your new table, it looks amazing! Happy PPF, hugs, Valerie

    1. Thanks so much, Valerie ๐Ÿ˜€

I can say that I’m not using traditional pen and ink, but a marker or fineliner, which makes it considerably easier.

Happy PPF! Thanks for dropping by ๐Ÿ˜€

      Best wishes,
      Liz

  2. Wonderful inktober drawings, what great variety! Love your new table too!

    Peace Giggles

    1. Thank you so much, Giggles ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. So glad you’re doing Inktober too! And that octopus is just awesome! Happy PPF!

    1. It’s a bit of a challenge to do enough, but I’m not putting pressure on myself. How about you?

      Liz

  4. Great drawings. I toyed with the idea of doing Inktober, but then decided against. I never know how I’m going to feel from one day to the next due to a medical condition. I love drawing with ink though. Your set-up looks really good. All I have is a small table stuck in a corner. I did get a light though, which makes a real difference. Good luck with the watercolour. It isn’t nearly as difficult as it’s made out to be.

    1. The only reason I have a good space is I have a good, kind, and patient Hubby ๐Ÿ˜€ And many years of collecting art materials and equipment behind me. Bit by bit it happens.

I did some watercolour last night. Still scary challenging, but I’ll post about that next week ๐Ÿ˜€

      Thanks for dropping by.

      Best wishes,
      Liz

  5. Hi Liz, I really like your ink drawings – each of them quite different. I especially love your snake monster. You’ve put a lot of work into them.
You’ve made a great painting area for yourself… good lighting too. Cheerio and Happy PPF :D)

    1. Yeah, I have yet to find a style. All my work could have been done by six different people. Though I did discover yesterday while doing a watercolour piece, that I definitely prefer to slap paint down rather than plan extensively like watercolour seems to demand ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks for your kind comments and for dropping by.

      Best wishes,
      Liz

  6. I think that first drawing would make an awesome shirt!

  7. Your work is wonderful, I love the octopus and its tiny skull and crossbones. I am envious of your work area, I just have to use my dining table, I think that is why I like digital art, you dont have to clear it up so you can eat! Good luck with inkober.

  8. Truly wonderful drawings! I enjoyed seeing them very much!

  9. I am very impressed with your ink art. You have good clean lines.

  10. Hi Liz! I LOVE the girl!!! I think she would be great on painting aprons! I have been thinking about making an apron and have not gotten around to it yet. Your Snake Monster is awesome and I think the octopus is incredible!!! Great job. I just posted my first attempt at watercolors in years. I had so much fun playing with them. I posted a link to the artist I have been watching for beginner watercolor YouTube videos, although there are so many out there. Have fun and a wonderful week ahead. Hugz, Rasz

  11. Goodness gracious! This is fantastic! What a talented artist you are. ๐Ÿ˜€

  12. I certainly see her as a story book character for sure. Good job. Blessings, Janet
