Izzy’s Rainbow – Artful Creations Day 6

I did art today! Perhaps not as much as I could have, but some, and I worked on Izzy’s Rainbow.

My littlest girl loves rainbows so I a while back decided to paint her a rainbow. I was inspired by a chance discovery of a technique with this piece:

It is really hard to see with this photo, but the colour texture in this is fascinating. I was attempting something completely different and have since decided to leave it exactly as it is. I really like the effect.

So I thought I would expand on it and next tried this:

Which is still sitting in my lounge waiting for me to finish it. I should have a go at it tomorrow (I was supposed to today) so I actually have something for this week’s A Piece a Week on Tuesday.

And that led me to Izzy’s Rainbow…

Izzy’s Rainbow is still in the early stages. I’ve painted in the background and drizzled on the paint, but I have yet to add the glazes which really make this technique work. It is very hard to see on all these photographs as I’m working with very glossy paint and poor photographing conditions. Here is a close up of the Rainbow…

I’m also not totally happy with the colour values so I will likely be trying to manipulate them. Also, I will likely be adding something to the composition other than just the rainbow, simply because it looks odd just sitting there.

I’m not sure I can pull off the same technique as from the first painting, but I’m going to give it a go and just work it as it tells me to. Who knows what I’m likely to end up with. That will be a couple of days from now, as I want to give some solid drying time (and considering we have another 40C day coming up, it will be really dry by tomorrow night).

This painting is for Izzy’s room and I’ve received a lot of oohs and aahs from her in proof that she likes it so far 😀
