Creating your own stamps

Quite some time ago I created these two little books celebrating my daughters’ first year.

Since then, I have explored playing with stamps in various ways.

It can be anything you want it to be
It can be anything you want it to be

But I have discovered that one thing I really like to do is make a print with the stamp and then paint over it. This is an example where I have painted over a few, but haven’t finished them all so you can see what they were like before I got out the paint brush. Incidentally these are a stylized version of phlox flowers which we had in our garden last spring. I fell in love with their colour and shape and had to do something with them.

I have since played a little bit more, which anyone near my social media feeds last weekend will be able to attest too.

I even painted this little one tonight.

You can see the plain stamped version of the elephants in the photo above. My youngest, as always chose pink.

So why am I choosing this particular artform to babble on about?

Because I’m presenting a workshop! If you would like to have a go at making your own stamps, I will be at the Unley Town Hall, Oxford Terrace, Unley on Sunday 29 October, 2 – 4.30pm. Basic materials supplied and we are going to have a little fun ๐Ÿ˜€ Cost $10, to be paid on booking, bookings essential, phone Unley Libraries on 8372 5100 or visit the Libraries – Unley Civic Library, 181 Unley Road, Unley or Goodwood Library, 101 Goodwood Road, Goodwood – to book and pay.

And because I played with paint, I’m submitting this to the wonderful group at Paint Party Friday. I recommend all arty enthusiasts have a wander over there and check out the whole variety of talents in the group.

And now I am all sleepy. It has been a long day with several more to come.

Art always! And thanks for reading ๐Ÿ˜€

Best wishes,
Liz

Wow, your stamps are lovely! The effect of layering paint on top of a print is stunning ๐Ÿ™‚ Book is also so cute and the elephants are DARLING!

    1. Thank you so much, Abigail, for your kind comments!

Yes, I’m finding that painting over the stamps seems to be my calling. I really enjoy stamping down the outline and then simply colouring it in with paint. Kinda meditative.

Thank you so much for dropping by ๐Ÿ˜€

      Best wishes,
      Liz
