Friar Mug – Day 1 of Blogtoberfest and 31 Days of Playful Drawing

Challenge: A favourite mug (or tea cup)

Okay, I admit it, this is one I prepared earlier 😀 But it was for this challenge and only a few days earlier, so it still counts.

This mug was my grandmother’s. (Well, technically speaking it is not a mug, but a jug, and despite the challenge asking for a mug, I thought I should challenge myself more and see if I could do it. It was fun.) it used to sit on an ornament shelf in her kitchen. When she and my grandfather passed away, I saved it from the trash (and just as well, as I came across it in an antiques catalogue sometime later and it is worth a few hundred dollars apparently – not that I’d dream of selling it).

Friar mugBit of a mixed result. I did it live, plonking the jug in front of me on the desk on a piece of red paper. It was an exercise in perspective (which I don’t think I passed), light and reflection. Mixed results – the paper I drew it on could not support the repeated layers of Inktense pencil I placed on it and began to fray…and it appears that I’m a little out of practise in the drawing department, so this month of drawing might do me good.

So, day one…now onto day two.

Best wishes,
Liz
