Q is for Quilling – Incredible art

First up I will admit that I have never done any quilling of any kind. But I do have a fascination for paper art and after clambering around the Net looking for quilling art works (c’mon, let’s face it, there aren’t many art forms out there starting with ‘Q’ :D), I think I will put it on my list of ‘must have a go at one day’, because there are some stunning artworks out there.

The first artist I came across ages ago was Yulia Brodskaya. If you don’t visit any other link in this post, visit this one. She has some absolutely stunning work.

I also stumbled across a great blog on papercraft in general – All Things Paper – which has some great quilling examples amongst its fantastic paper art. Through that site I discovered Erin Casner.

And I couldn’t resist including this, but unfortunately I do not know who the artist is 🙁

EDIT: I now know who the artist of this fantastic hand is – Kathleen Usova. Many thanks to Ann Martin of All Things Paper for the heads up!

For some other fantastic paper art examples, please visit my Pinterest board on the topic. There is some beautiful art out there.

I really should try this out one day. It looks challenging and fun.

Best wishes,
Liz

  1. Hey there, Like you I have noticed lots of quilling on pinterest. I think it is a really cool looking craft to learn how to do. I don’t think I would ever in a million years be able to do anything even half as beaufiful as that first example you have shown us. Thanks for sharing.

  2. What a lovely artform. First glance and I thought your post was about quilting. Teach me to try to read when I am tired

    1. I’m sure you’re not the only one who sees Quilling as Quilting 😀 I saw the comment ‘this is quilling, not quilting’ on a couple of sites 😀

      Yes, a very interesting artform.

      Thanks for dropping by.

  4. Thanks so much for linking to my site, All Things Paper. You’ve posted great examples of quilling and I hope you’ll give it a try sometime. Quilling is a lot of fun once you learn the basic technique and practice a bit. Don’t let these complex designs intimidate you. All quillers start with very simple designs and after all, it’s only bits of rolled paper and glue! Kathleen Usova is the name of the quiller who created the hand.

    1. I subscribed to your site. It’s a great site!

I’ll definitely grab some materials for quilling and give it a go. It is definitely a fascinating art with such possibilities.

And thanks so much for identifying Kathleen Usova’s art. I do so much prefer to credit an artist and have corrected it here and on Pinterest.

      Thanks for dropping by!
